Drawing-led window profile sourcing

Aluminum Window Profiles

Concept visualization of generic silver and graphite aluminum window-frame extrusion sections beside a window corner

Aluminum window profiles are extruded sections used in frames, sashes, mullions and glazing beads. Aluminum Profile Works helps buyers prepare a sourcing inquiry around the chosen window system, mating interfaces, material, finish and finished-part requirements.

Start with the window information you have

A system reference, section drawing or project brief can begin the inquiry. Identify which window details are approved and which still need review.

  1. 01

You have a section drawing or sample

Share units, drawing revision, mating-part references and finished lengths. Mark critical dimensions and open decisions before requesting supply.

    Use the window RFQ example
  2. 02

Your window specification is still open

Describe the operating style, glazing and project conditions already set by the system designer. Flag thermal, finish and interface choices for confirmation.

Window profile selection

Specify the profile as part of a complete window assembly

Use the approved system drawings to keep extrusion geometry, mating parts and finished supply requirements together. The responsible window designer must confirm assembly performance.

Frame, sash, mullion and bead sections

Identify each part by drawing and revision. Show how the outer frame, opening sash, intermediate mullion and glazing bead engage in the chosen assembly.

Casement, sliding or fixed configuration

Casement windows need defined hinge, seal and locking interfaces; sliding windows need track, roller and interlock details; fixed glazing needs the approved retention and drainage arrangement.

Alloy, temper and finish

State the approved material condition and visible-surface finish. Hydro describes 6063 as a common starting point for visible architectural extrusions, not a universal specification for every window section.

Thermal and assembly requirements

State whether the approved system uses thermal-break aluminum profiles or non-thermally-broken sections. Hydro describes thermal-break joining; the project team must verify whole-window thermal, air, water and structural performance.

Drawing and dimension requirements

Dimension the features that control window assembly fit

Provide a dimensioned cross-section with units, datums and revision. Separate continuous extrusion features from cutting, holes and other finished-part operations.

Section envelope and wall geometry

Show overall frame or sash width and depth, relevant wall dimensions, cavities and the finished length of each part.

Glazing and seal interfaces

Dimension glass rebates, glazing bead engagement, gasket seats, drainage paths and the specified glazing build-up.

Hardware and mating parts

Identify hinges, locks, rollers, tracks, corner connectors and fixing points where they affect the selected window style.

Revision, finish and inspection

Mark the approved drawing revision, exposed faces, finish requirements, critical fit dimensions, measurement stage and required inspection records.

This guide gives no universal wall thickness, tolerance, structural rating or window-system approval. Confirm project-specific requirements with the responsible designer and the selected system documents.

Clarify before sourcing

Four gaps that change a window profile inquiry

A section drawing becomes useful when it is tied to the selected window assembly and the condition in which each part will be supplied.

The system reference is incomplete

Frame, sash, mullion and glazing bead sections must work together within a particular window design; a nominal series name does not define every mating part.

Provide the system reference, section drawings, revisions and matching component list.

Glazing, seal and hardware interfaces are unclear

Glass thickness, gasket seats, drainage paths, hinge or roller positions and corner connections may control whether a section fits.

Show the specified glazing build-up and the relevant gasket, hardware, track and joint details.

Thermal construction is assumed

A thermal-break profile joins separated aluminum parts through an insulating element, but the required frame construction belongs to the selected window system.

State whether a thermal break is required and share the approved assembly detail; confirm complete-window performance separately.

Finished supply details are missing

The extrusion drawing alone does not state coating, cut length, machining, inspection, packing or delivery requirements.

List the approved alloy and temper, finish, processing, critical checks, quantities and destination.

Window assembly contexts

How window style changes the profile interfaces

These generated images are concept illustrations of generic windows, not stocked APW products, completed projects or approved construction details.

Casement window profiles

Casement window profiles

Confirm frame and sash engagement, hinge and locking references, gasket contact and glazing retention for the selected opening system.

Sliding window profiles

Sliding window profiles

Confirm the track, sash roller and interlock geometry, drainage route and glass and seal interfaces in the approved system.

Fixed window profiles

Fixed window profiles

Confirm perimeter frame and mullion sections, glazing bead retention, gasket seats and the project drainage detail.

Before you send an RFQ

Bring the window sections and mating references together

A preliminary drawing or sample can start the conversation. Mark what is approved and what still needs confirmation.

  • Window style, system reference, dimensioned sections or CAD files with units and revisions
  • Glazing build-up, gasket, hardware, track, corner-joint and fixing references relevant to the assembly
  • Approved alloy and temper, thermal construction, surface finish, exposed faces and project specification
  • Finished lengths, machining, critical checks, inspection records, quantities, packing and destination
Inquiry coordination

From window drawing to a focused sourcing request

Keep each section, its mating parts and its finished supply condition connected through the inquiry.

01

Share the available specification

Send section drawings or samples, the selected window style, mating references and known material, finish, quantity and destination details.

02

Clarify open details

Identify missing dimensions, interfaces, thermal construction, processing and inspection needs. Refer whole-window performance and approvals to the responsible specialists.

03

Confirm the sourcing next step

Coordinate the supply discussion around the reviewed specification and outstanding questions. Confirm price, minimum order and delivery terms for the actual inquiry.

Window profile sourcing questions

Questions to resolve before a window profile RFQ

Use the approved window-system documents and qualified project review for structural, thermal, air, water and installation decisions.

They are extruded aluminum sections used as parts of a window assembly, including frames, sashes, mullions and glazing beads. Their shape and finished condition must match the selected glazing, hardware, seals and connections.
